Objective: Community-led protection of rivers and streams.

To whose benefit? Communities of El Llano, Savegre, San Marcos, El Brujo, Piedras Blancas.

When? Jan. 2005 - ?

Description: Series of workshops on Water: Workshops aim to help property owners to acquire Environmental Service Payments for protecting their natural forests, especially those forests near water sources. Teach people why forests are so important to our well-being and for the quality of our water. Training community organizations to acquire and secure the legal concessions for their water sources and how to efficiently capture and distribute clean water to their communities, protect their water, manage their rural aqueducts efficiently, etc.

Current Status: First workshop was given to a group of local leaders on Feb. 16th, 2005. ASANA is currently offering a series of workshops to the communities of the Savegre watershed. Coordination is in progress with the Comité de Subcuenca División Abajo to bring these workshops to interested leaders before the end of the year.

Contributing partners/funding: This project is spearheaded by ASANA, a local partner, who will be able to start servicing this area of the Path of the Tapir with their already developed programs. The first workshop on how to get water concessions was provided by CRCT in coordination with ARAUCARIA and MINAE.
