ABOUT FINCA DOS SEMILLAS
Finca Dos Semillas (Two Seed Farm)Tico-Style Bed & Breakfast If you really want to know what is meant by the Costa Rican saying, "Pura Vida!" one must visit and experience a rural Tico home. Literally, the words "pura vida" simultaneously mean "the pure life" and "purely life." A few days on a Tico farm makes one truly appreciate the meaning of the term and why it is said with such pride.
Finca Dos Semillas is a small farm in the undeveloped valley of the Division river, in the Central Valley region of Costa Rica. It is owned and operated by a family of four: Gerardo, a native Costa Rican who has lived in this valley all his life; Tamara, a Salvadorean woman with Italian American and Spanish ancestry; and their two children. Tamara is fluent in English and is home schooling her children to be bilingual as well.
The family lives almost completely off of the land. They grow their own organic produce, wild-harvest fruit from the rainforest and river, and make many of their own dairy products. When a member of the family is ill, Gerardo enters the jungle and brings home the necessary medicine. The refreshing water for the farm house comes straight from a natural spring up in the Cloud Forest above. The two meals served daily to guests (breakfast and dinner) consist of fresh food cooked with clean spring water. There are no words to describe how delicious this rural Tico cuisine is.
Without electricity, the lifestyle experienced at Finca Dos Semillas reconnects visitors with their natural rhythms. The family goes to sleep and wakes up with the sun. However, if guests wish to continue a night-owl schedule, they may enjoy beverages on the front porch enjoying the spectacle of fires flies dancing in the nightly blanket of fog that hangs over the river. Breakfast is served whenever guests wish to awaken.
And for those looking for adventure and some time in nature, Finca Dos Semillas offers educational tours into the rainforest, swimming in the waterfalls and river, fishing, horseback riding, bird watching, Spanish classes, etc. Children are always welcome at Finca Dos Semillas and Tamara offers babysitting services.
Finca Dos Semillas prides itself on its remoteness and isolation from high tourist areas. There are no restaurants or bars within walking distance. This is a place that provides a stimulating cultural experience and immersion into a lifestyle rooted in nature. Finca Dos Semillas is genuine, clean, rustic, and simple.
Costa Rica Conservation Trust, a U.S. based non-profit conservation organization, has recently surveyed the old growth rainforest areas bordering Finca Dos Semillas. Gerardo and Tamara have joined their efforts to make this land a wildlife refuge and ecological park and save it from destruction. They have donated free nights to donors who help CRCT purchase and put this land under protection.
